Free webinar to discuss healthy benefits of coffee
Studies show coffee can extend life, reduce diseases
(Winston-Salem, NC - March 10, 2024) - There’s no wonder why coffee is the second most consumed beverage in America next to water. The most recent study on coffee by the New England Journal of Medicine shows that it can extend your life and lower your chances of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer.
“For the Love of Coffee,” a free webinar exploring the health benefits of coffee, will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, via Zoom. Attendees will learn the top five benefits of coffee, how to keep their coffee healthy and doctor approved, and why coffeeshops are so popular, especially among millennials.
Millennials are drinking the most coffee from coffee shops than any other generation. Studies also show that lattes are their favorite coffee drink to purchase. The webinar will discuss how to make lattes and iced coffees healthier to maximize the benefits of coffee, as well as delve into the intentional designs of coffee shops to attract young people.
The host, Kimberly Harrington, will talk about her own personal love affair with coffee and how she responded when her doctor recently advised that she cut back on caffeine. The program will also include a medical professional to take questions from attendees.
Harrington is director of media relations for a college in Winston-Salem, NC, and is a public relations consultant. She is pursuing her graduate degree in public relations from Full Sail University.
Grab your favorite coffee drink and join the 30-minute webinar that will make coffee lovers feel less guilty about that second – or third – cup of joe.
Click here to join the live webinar via Zoom at 7 p.m. on March 21.

Locally-owned Uptown Coffee Company in Wadesboro featured in episode of ‘Hometown Chronicles USA’
(Wadesboro, NC, Feb. 18, 2024) – Uptown Coffee Company, the only locally-owned coffee shop in Anson County, was featured in the latest edition of “Hometown Chronicles USA,” a YouTube Channel devoted to uncovering the hidden gems and unique characters of small towns in America. The show is hosted by historians Frederick DeShon Murphy and Kyle Scharf.
Uptown Coffee Company is located in a historical building in the center of Wadesboro on West Wade Street. Owner and manager Corey Lowery, 25, a native of Anson County, opened the coffee shop just six months ago and has transformed the historic space into a contemporary coffee shop with creative workspaces and ambient lighting.
In the segment featuring Uptown Coffee, Lowery talks about his inspiration for opening the coffee shop and providing a place for people to gather and have fun in a rural town without having to drive 45 minutes to the nearest metropolis.
It’s nostalgic to walk around uptown Wadesboro and connect the buildings today with their rich histories, Lowery said in the video. “You can come here to Wadesboro and get coffee. You can shop local. We’ve got some good food. It’s all about coming back home and finding those small shops and supporting those.”
In addition to coffee products, smoothies and refreshers, Uptown Coffee features live music and worship services on occasion and has hosted flight nights, where registrants can sample four complimentary Uptown Coffee products in a single visit.
“It’s encouraging to see a young man doing business in a small town and succeeding at it,” said Leon Gatewood, a community leader and founder of a nonprofit in Anson County named HOLLA! (Helping Our Loved ones Learn and Achieve). “I hope this episode will inspire others to reinvest in small town USA.”
